Each year, the Florida Institute of CPAs organizes a CPA day of service, encouraging members to give back to their communities. We’re thrilled to be getting involved with two important organizations on May 17-18 this year.
On Friday, May 17, our team will be gathering at the Jacksonville Zoo to volunteer with the USO for their annual Military Appreciation night. Our founding member and partner Joel Chamberlain serves on the board for the Greater Jacksonville USO, so the serendipitous timing of the zoo event with CPA day of service made it a natural fit for our service agenda. The Jacksonville USO serves over 250,000 active-duty military through programs that improve quality of life for service members. Joel learned about the Greater Jacksonville USO when a client invited him to a community event. After hearing about the USO’s mission and all the things they accomplish in our community, he felt drawn to board service as a way to give to back to friends, relatives, and coworkers who serve in the military.
The next day, Saturday May 18, we’ll gather at the Ronald McDonald House to prepare and serve dinner to the families there. The Ronald McDonald house provides housing for families while their children are in the hospital, giving them a place to stay that’s near the hospital so the family can be as close together as possible. Jacksonville’s Ronald McDonald house hosts over 5,000 guests each year, and we’re humbled to be able to provide a meal for some of those families.
We’re all looking forward to spending time together while giving back to our community. Keep an eye on our social media for photos and stories on the 17th and 18th!
