internship for finance student - Chloe Shaw from Florida State University

A quick Q&A with our FSU finance intern

We take pride in nurturing the next generation of finance professionals through our comprehensive internship program. This summer, we had the pleasure of welcoming Chloe Shaw, a senior finance student from Florida State University (FSU). Over the years FSU has consistently brought us talented and motivated individuals like Chloe, so we appreciate our continued partnership with the university.

We sat down for a quick Q&A with Chloe to hear about her experiences, insights, and the valuable lessons she’s learned during her time with us at FSA.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

I grew up in Jacksonville and am currently a senior at Florida State University, graduating in the Spring of 2025 with a degree in Finance.

What drew you to Financial Solution Advisors for your internship?

I was interested in exploring what a career in the financial world would look like, and I had a personal family connection with Joel Chamberlain. He connected me with Shelly Lingor and Cindy Monk, who interviewed me and helped me get set up with Financial Solution Advisors for an internship this summer.

How has your experience working with FSA been?

I have loved everyone that I have met in the office. The admin team (Penny, Kinika, and Michael) have always been so helpful when I have questions about how or why we do something. I can also see that Joel, Isaac, Shelly, and Cindy are passionate about what they do, and their dedication and love of their work are evident in the way they speak and show up at the office.

What were your main responsibilities during your internship?

If anyone around the office needed assistance, I would be there to help out. I would help input client information into the firm’s database and tax software. I helped with document preparation: preparing and assembling tax returns and other client documents for review and submission. I also assisted with special projects, such as developing a podcast and helping with marketing campaigns.

How did your academic background from FSU prepare you for this internship?

It established a foundational understanding of the terminology frequently used in the office and with clients.

What new skills or knowledge have you gained during your time here?

I have a comprehensive understanding of daily operations at a CPA firm and am proficient in preparing and assembling tax returns.

How have the professionals at FSA supported your learning and development?

The office environment is characterized by a high level of professionalism, which is reflected in the efficiency and precision with which tasks are performed. I intend to carry this professional mindset with me in my future endeavors.

What has been your proudest moment or accomplishment during your internship?

My proudest achievement was developing the layout and foundation for a podcast. It was immensely rewarding to create topics and contribute to a project that will have lasting accessibility.

Working with Joel on Mondays and Tuesdays provided me with the most educational and enriching experiences. Under Joel’s guidance, I have learned a great deal and developed a passion for professional growth. His mentorship not only enhanced my technical skills but also instilled in me a deeper understanding of strategic planning and effective communication. I am confident that these experiences have prepared me to tackle future challenges with a proactive and innovative approach.

How do you think this internship will impact your future career plans?

Observing the dedication and positive attitude with which everyone approaches their work has been truly meaningful. This experience has instilled in me a proactive and innovative mindset, inspired by my colleagues’ commitment and professionalism.

Would you recommend FSA to other students looking for internships? Why?

Yes, absolutely. The office environment is exceptional, characterized by a supportive and positive atmosphere. Everyone is efficient and always ready to lend a helping hand, making the office both productive and enjoyable. Joel consistently encourages us to adopt a business-oriented mindset, always offering a smile. Cindy adeptly solves problems with grace and kindness. The entire administrative team greets everyone warmly and is always well-informed about office activities. There really isn’t a better staff out there.
